Adults Only: Fourth of July — Dessert

Category : FABFOOD

Spruce it up a bit this Fourth of July party with a red, white, and blueberry dessert. Instead of serving a dish that requires last minute preparation, select something like a layered trifle. The secret to this dessert success is the the longer the whipped cream, mixed berries, and liquor-soaked bread sit, the better the trifle will taste (meaning more time partying with your guests)  Feel free to substitute  whatever berries and alcohol you prefer.

Ingredients

1-1/2 quarts mixed fresh berries (hull and quarter strawberries), plus extra berries for garnish
3/4 cup plus 1 Tbs. granulated sugar
4 tsp. minced fresh ginger
1 lb. day-old French bread, crusts removed, crumb cut into 1/2 -inch cubes (5 to 6 cups)
1/2 cup Grand Marnier or Cointreau
1-1/2 cups heavy cream

Directions

  1. Heat the berries and 3/4 cup of the sugar in a 4-quart saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until they start to release juice but are still whole and intact, about 5 minutes. Stir in the ginger and pour the mixture onto a rimmed baking sheet to cool.
  2. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, toss the bread with 5 Tbs. of the liqueur.
  3. In a chilled metal bowl with chilled beaters, whip the cream with the remaining 3 Tbs. liqueur and 1 Tbs. sugar to almost-stiff peaks.
  4. In a 2- to 2-1/2 -quart clear glass bowl, layer in the following order: 1 mounded cup of bread cubes, 1 cup of berries and juices, and 1 cup of whipped cream. Repeat 3 times—you should have 12 layers total. For the final layers, use all the remaining bread, berries (and their juices), and whipped cream.
  5. Cover and refrigerate until the juice has completely softened the bread, at least 4 hours or overnight. Garnish with fresh berries before serving.

Serves 10-12.

NYC is known for it’s legendary restaurants that seem to exceed everyone’s expectations. Max Brenner’s is a very cool restaurant that is filled with great food, unforgettable deserts, and a decent atmosphere.  Trust me, it is something that will make everyone melt!

This delicious getaway is located at 841 Broadway, between 13th and 14th Streets at Union Square. Hours are 9am till 12am Sunday through Thursday and till 2am Friday and Saturday.

Max Brenner’s dim lighting is perfect for couples, groups of friends, and even family’s.  The menu has a plethora of drinks, entrées, appetizers, and deserts to satisfy everyone’s “food mood”. Luckily, there is a pick-up option that allows customers to order their favorite items at their convenience.

This restaurant does have a more intimate seating arrangement due to the size of the venue, which can be a turn-off for families with small children.  Fortunately, it also contains a small chocolate shop that allows visitors to purchase chocolate, clothing, body products and more while they wait to be seated or (entertainment for hungry kids) or on their way out.  Max Brenner’s is reasonably priced and well worth every penny.  This trendy restaurant is something everyone should try at least once this summer.

From a personal experience, I had a wonderful time dining here.  The service was quick and the help was extremely friendly. Portions are generous and very filling. Every item I tried was delicious (fattening, but well worth the calories)!

And if you’re looking for a job this summer, you might want to consider Max Brenner’s especially if you are personable and have the knack for multi-tasking. Personally, I would love working at a palace like this. The environment has a fun and fresh vibe.
